Essential has been a brand I’ve been avoiding since a bad experience a couple of years ago. When it was just released, I got their shampoo, conditioner and treatment to try. The results were hair that feels like it’s been drenched in chlorine water – very unruly and clumpy. I stopped using it, gave the shampoo away and stashed the conditioner and treatment in a corner to collect dust.
Then after a while, because I was trying to clear conditioners as well as being lazy to get a new one, I resorted to using the treatment on my hair in lieu of conditioner everyday. It wasn’t that bad.
So long story short, I got this hair mask recently to try because the packaging and the claims were attractive.
For a hair mask, this is one of the cheapest available. It is only $9.90 while other brands like Keratase cost $40 – $50 (I know that’s from a different league). Even other supermarket brands, like ascience cost more. Dove is possibly as affordable actually.
So anyway, I’ve been using this for 2 days, and I’m quite satisfied. It works better if you let it sit in longer, with a shower cap to seal in the moisture, before rinsing. I’d recommend this hair mask! I totally love the smell too. It smells like sweet berry.
I got this product as part of a prize from Laneige and I’ve been using it for a couple of days.
The full size tub doesn’t look like it has a lot of product inside though.
The appearance and claims seem similar to my old favourite Biotherm Aquasource Gel so I was excited to know if it can match up.
Unfortunately, this is different.
It wasn’t all bad, but I’d say – nothing special.
It serves alright as a moisturiser, but it could be better. The hydration from it could be better, and the texture could be less sticky.
It doesn’t feel as light as the Biotherm famed moisturiser. Also, I feel a tingling sensation when applied, implying that it should contain alcohol.
I would prefer using the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack over this, anytime.
So for a moisturiser of gel type, I’d recommend you to get the Biotherm one instead!
It’s been 1 week since I’ve had it.
My routine will be:
Morning – normal
Night – Shu Uemura HPCO Fresh to remove all makeup, Clarisonic + Hado Labo SHA wash in the shower for 1 minute, Hada Labo SHA Lotion, Sheet Mask, Shiseido White Lucent Serum on pigmentation, Estee Lauder ANR Eye treatment, Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX
My skin feels evidently smoother and soft with the use of the clarisonic. The brush feels rough on my face but it doesn’t scratch it or anything so it’s fine. Maybe I will get the delicate brush head when it’s time to change it.
I find that my Hada Labo lotion absorbs easier too.
I do not have much blackhead issues so I cannot comment on that but I’m sure it will dislodge the heads better than manual washing.
I did not experience any drying effects from it comparing to normal washing so I can safely say it doesn’t dry skin out.
Face of the day:
Naruko BB Sunscreen
Amazing Concealer Fair (under eyes)
Heroine Make Smooth Cover Powder (no coverage)
Benefit Hervana Blush
Jadilla J liquid eyeliner
Kate Mascara Base
Beaute de Kose mascara
Paul & Joe eyebrow powder
Dior Serum de Rogue 840
I picked up the dior lippie during the previous Dior sales. The colour is nice and it is very hydrating, good for dry lips, but the downside is that it doesn’t adhere well and will wipe off easily, or stain anything which comes into contact with my lips. Nevertheless, the colour is lovely!
I have used countless face masks but I shall only mention about 4 facial masks that I’ve used lately.
1. My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Mask
Price: $0.80 from Taiwan, $1.30 from Singapore
They have revamped their masks about 2 years ago and now the sheets are these transulent type, which is the latest technology nowadays compared to the thicker opaque tissue sort. It retains the serums quite well so a lot of products goes onto your face with the mask instead of staying in the packaging. The new mask’s shape is fine but I would prefer the gap between the nose and mouth to be smaller as I really hate having mask on my lips. I usually snip it off.
This mask is my HG mask as the whitening effect is instant and it moisturises well.
I highly recommend this! it is the best mask among all My Beauty Diary series.
2. Leader’s Insolution Melatox Mask
I wasn’t interested in this when I first saw it advertised on blogs but when a non sponsored blogger mentioned that it was good I was tempted to try it, hearing that the whitening effect is good.
The mask sheet itself was fine, the new technology and all. However, I didn’t find the whitening effect to be spectacular.
I’d say this isn’t worth the price as it could buy almost 4 MBD masks!
3. Naruko Rose & Snow Fungus Mask
I love naruko products so I got this to try. The mask sheets are of the latest technology too, and it is dripping with serum. The hydration effect is reasonable, but at price point I’d rather get MBD masks.
4. ODBO Vitamin C Mask
Price: gift from korea
I do not like this. The shape is very odd and it doesn’t cover up my forehead. I guess I generally do not like Korean masks and Taiwanese Masks fits me better!
My favourite Hada Labo SHA Lotion was running low (right most bottle) so I thought it’s the time to get the refill ($18.90)! I bought everything at Watsons. The refill has 150ml and the original has 170ml. It makes sense because you don’t wait till your bottle is dry empty before stocking up do you. However, it sucks to know that the full bottle ($22.90) comes with a free 20g face wash at Guardian which works out to be a better deal but oh well at least I did my part for the environment by getting a refill pack and I’m going to get good karma!
I got the face wash as well for $12.90. I previously used the AHA/BHA face wash and I broke out from it. I guess I generally do not respond well to AHAs at all. I got the SHA wash this time and it is going to work!
I got a 4 piece travel/ sample kit for $15.90. It is rather overpriced but I like how it is concise and compact.
I do like naruko face wash, but I find that it doesn’t foam up much. I was thinking I should use a more foamy cleanser with my clarisonic thus I decided to try Hada Labo. It is cheaper too.
I got the Clarisonic Mia in Tangerine, majorly subsidised by my friends as a birthday gift.
Within a week, it has arrived at my doorstep! I cannot wait to start using it. I am so going to see fabulous skin!
Prada Minimal Baroque Sunglasses
I set my eyes on the Prada Baroque sunglasses but in recent days a lot of similar designs have been sprouting out and is all over the place, it no longer makes sense to spend hundreds on the original.
I got these from ebay for about $7 each and they arrived in a week or so!
I totally love them!
I received a shopping voucher from MDS collection, form my friend. She got it from Groupon for $15 which entitles me to $40 worth of products.
I’ve never shopped at MDS before because when I first knew about them, their clothing looked super Taiwan auction style, which isn’t what I like, and it is rather overpriced.
I also do not like how they only have 1 size for most items.
After browsing for a while, I decided on the above dress. It cost $39.00 and with $1.50 of shipping, I had to top up $0.50 after using the voucher.
It arrived the next working day, which is quite prompt. The material looked not bad, comparing to the lousy quality expected from blogshops. It was very smooth and quite sateen. I liked how the belt was included free as well, and the belt itself was quite pretty and wearable!
For just $15.50 this piece is quite worth it!
