Haul Post

Finally! I purchased the Candydoll Mineral Powder which I’ve been eyeing. I always wanted to get a mineral loose powder with slight coverage, so that I can use on daily basis. I have endless supply of loose powder – but only a discontinued one from Beaute De Kose has some coverage. And that products is amazing, thus I fear the day I run out of it. My Paul & Joe, Beaute de Kose Ultimation, two of Lavsshuca Face Powder, Chacott Loose Power and Lunasol Loose Power are all translucent! I also have other pressed powders like MAC Mineral Skin Finish (slight cover), many of Laneige Sliding Pact and some which I have totally forgotten about.

I aimed to get this product not knowing much about it but I just learnt that this is their star product and is very popular in japan, so I just had to grab it today especially when it’s going at 20% off.

I also bought 2 blushes – Peach Pink and Strawberry Pink. Hopefully this can give me the effect of Posie Tint. I really like the color of Posie Tint but applying it can be a bitch and it stains my fingers. I wanted to get Pink Flamingo too, but I have endless supply of blushes too, so I skipped it.

These hair products were going at 50% off at Guardian so I bought them! Healthy hair is important.

Estee Lauder Makeover

I had the privilege to be invited to the Estee Lauder Every Woman Can be Beautiful Private event on 23rd July, thanks to Estee Lauder’s facebook.

The turnout was quite good and the place was kind of chaotic with so many people hanging around.

So I had my makeup done and hair styled! All products for makeup used were from estee lauder.

As a trained makeup artist myself, I felt that I could do a better job, but nevertheless the final outcome was quite nice! I would have preferred a more baby pink blush rather than this coral one, but thankfully it turned out quite dolly in pictures too.

She first cleansed my face with Perfectly Clean Fresh Balancing Lotion, applied Advanced Night Repair serum, Hydrationist Multi-Level Moisture Crème, and Advanced Night Repair eye serum (which I have a love).

For the makeup, she applied Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup SPF 10/PA++ (intensity 2.0), loose power, Ideal Light Brush-on Illuminator (1.0 Light) around my eyes (this made A LOT of difference), 5 colour eyeshadow (I think mine was Enchanted Berries), Double Wear Pencil Eyeliner on lower lash line, Double Wear liquid eyeliner on upper lid, eyebrow pencil (don’t know which), some ombre coral colour blush (which actually I didn’t like. I wanted baby pink blush), and some coral lipgloss (again, I would prefer fuchsia).

I really like the eye concealer, I might just buy it!! maybe I should sign up for the makeup workshop for $120, which is redeemable for products, if I intend to buy products. Actually looking at it now, the Double Wear light looks quite natural on my face too! And their brushes are the softest that ever touched my face.

For my hair, I requested a braided fringe, so this is what they did for me! French braid fringe and locks.

Due to the strong lighting my makeup turned out lighter than it actually was, in the photoshoot. It looks very natural here rather than dolly, which is alright too. I find this to be a very interesting photograph as I couldn’t possibly take this myself! I hardly have this pout lips expression in photos too.

Of course I had to take more pictures before I wash it off.

Nail Palace – Manicure

I got passed down a manicure package with 3 remaining sessions for Classic Manicure. This Nail Palace is infamous for being pushy about packages, but my experience turned out to be quite alright.

I went to the outlet at Tiong Barhu Plaza on a Sunday afternoon. Unlike boutique nail parlours, Nail Palace is more like those mega massage centres you see in Batam – they have plenty of seats and plenty of staff. I think they can accommodate more than 20 people at one time and they have abundance of staff. I did not book an appointment but was promptly assigned a manicurist. Most of the staff are Malaysian and they seem pretty experienced.

The one who did it for me was called Cecelia. She was quite meticulous and slow with her work, which is good if you have time, since most new manicurists love to rush through it compromising on the quality of work. My cuticles were very neatly pushed and trimmed.

I picked OPI S20 Come to Poppy from the Nice Stem Collection (2011). It is a bright reddish-pink with pearl shine.

Really lovely colour. Look how neat my nails looked? I’m pretty satisfied with it!

However, they don’t provide Seche Vite, though available with top up. In my opinion Seche Vite should be provided within the price, especially if the price wasn’t that cheap to begin with.

It matches my new floral dress really well! Love the colour.

Berskha – Shopping

For the end of season sale, the dresses at Berskha is going at $39.90. some of them were originally $75 while some of them $59.90. I bought 2 dresses which were originally $59.90 so that’s a saving of $40!

Here’s the back. I actually think the 2nd colour was nicer, but they didn’t have it in my size anymore. 😦

The other dress I got was a dress I already had but in another colour!

Masks

I went on mask phase lately and I bought a lot of masks!

I went to my local drugstore, Guardian, by chance, and my all time favourite mask – My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Mask was selling at $7.25 per box of 10 instead of the usual $14.50. I grabbed all stock in sight. This price is even lower than in Taiwan! I don’t know why there is such discount, because when I went to another outlet, it wasn’t on sale.

Combined with my existing stash I have about 100 masks to go around. That will last me a whole year if I use it every other day!

I also got the face shop Raspberry Roots Sleeping Mask. There was 20% off so it cost only $20.70 after discount! I must say I like the pump packaging, though it’s not as dainty as a tub, it is easier to dispense. However, hydration wise, it isn’t very hydrating. The consistency is very light.

I went to lush and impulsively bought one of their fresh facial masks, the Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask (75g, $24). It is quite overpriced in Singapore.

Avoid disasters with the power of blueberries! Fresh blueberries are rich in beneficial antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to reduce inflammation and act as a mild antiseptic. Soothing chamomile, Irish moss and almond oil work with the gentle cleansing action of calamine to save your skin. Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave for five to ten minutes, then rinse away with warm water. Keep chilled.

I’ve used it once so far, and will use every 3 days to finish within a month, and so far I love it! my face feels smoother after use.

Naruko Haul

I am back from the Japalang sales. I did not manage to get anything from K-Palette but I bought a load of naruko products!

It’s not dirt cheap but just 30% off the Singapore retail price. I was going to order from naruko as I am out of moisturiser so of course I will welcome a 30% discount.

I bought 2 of the Apple Seed & Tranxemic Acid Hydra Milk. I decided to try this instead of my previous rose & snow fungus milky lotion because I wanted some whitening effect! I decided to get the serum too, since it was $10 cheaper than usual. Perhaps using it over my whole face will enhance the effects.

There was no Apple Seed night gelly, to my dismay, but there was the Magnolia one and I delightedly got 2 of it! it’s for brightening and firming and I guess I could do with those. It’s only $15 each. The Taiwan price works out to be around $13 so the mark up is not big!

I can’t wait to use them to see the effect.

I also got 2 backups of my favourite sunscreen, the narcissus bb sunscreen. It’s $18 instead of the usual $25.90. I guess these should last me til the end of the year!

As much as I love most of naruko’s products, I have to say I don’t really like their sheet masks. The shape is ill fitting, and the Job’s tears one especially, do not adhere well to my face. It is also not dirt cheap at around $1.50 a piece. I would recommend My Beauty Diary for masks still, but for skincare, get Naruko and Hada Labo!

The Kuching Nail Spa

Thanks to Groupon, I got deals for this relatively new nail parlour near my place. I bought 2 of such deals as they launched it twice. It cost only $58 for 3 sessions, which makes it about $19 for a classic mani + pedi.

There are only 2 manicurists there and though I can’t say they are the best around, they are good enough.

A beverage of your choice will be served and my favourite is the Vanilla, Honey & Chamomile tea.

They have a selection of OPI and ORLY colours.

Appointments are not that hard to fix, though it may be quite tight on weekends and evenings. However, a few days advanced notice is fine, from my experience. Not to the extent where you need to book weeks in advance. Overall, I would recommend this place. However, I find the normal rates quite high. They charge as much as it would cost to do it in town.

Sale

I didn’t know beauty blender was in Singapore until I saw this flyer. Apparently its priced almost the same as that sold in USA so if you want it cheaper you can check out this sale! Its supposedly going at 30% off. I’m not sure if it applies to the double packaging or the single one.

Anyway I don’t think I’ll be getting those because I already have 2. I want to aim the K Palette eyeliner which I heard will be going at 3 for $15! That’s a steal. Also interested in getting Cure if it’s cheap. It’s the best exfoliater. However, nowadays I am using Clarisonic and usually skip exfoliation.

*update*

From http://www.felicianeo.com/what-ive-been-busy-with-warehouse-sale-sneaks it’s confirmed that they have Naruko products! I’m so excited as I am a fan.

The retail prices of naruko in Singapore is up to 75% more of that sold in Taiwan. Yes, it is a scary mark up. For example, the BB sunscreen which is my HG cost $25.90 here but probably only $15 in Taiwan. A facial cleanser here cost $16 but only $8 in Taiwan. At this sale it’s going at 30% off local retail price, so I guess that’s better than nothing, especially since I need more moisturiser!!

My Rose & Snow Fungus Milky Lotion has officially reduced to the last few drops so I hope to get a new one tomorrow.

I am aiming the Apple Seed & Tranxemic Acid range and they have the milk lotion there. It cost $25.90 so with 30% off it would be $18! In Taiwan it is NT369 ~ $16. Not too bad. The serum will be $30.90 *0.7 = $21.63. In Taiwan it cost NT459 ~ $20. I’m undecided whether to get the serums because I have Shiseido White Lucent Serum x 2 in my backup stash. The reason why I am aiming the Apple Seed & Tranxemic acid range is because Shiseido White Lucent uses Tranxemic acid too, so I thought I could combine it with shiseido’s serum as I want to switch my skincare to whitening.

Kind of wasted they do not have the Apple Seed or Magnolia night gelly there, but actually I have 3 backups of Laneige sleeping mask so I do not actually urgently need night gelly. I have finished the Naruko Tea Tree night gelly and it is good! I’m not sure whether I should try the night eye gelly.

So anyway, the stuff I am getting:

K Palette eyeliner x 2 + eyebrow liner – 3 for $15

Apple Seed & Tranxemic Acid Milk Lotion x 2 – $25.90 ~ $18 x 2

Apple Seed & Tranxemic Acid Serum – $30.90~ $21.66

NARUKO Narcissus Total Defense BB Sunscreen SPF50 – $25.90 ~ $18

From the blog as linked above, the Cure aqua gel is going at $69 for 2 which is about 18% less than retail price. Cure has never been on sale before.

Beauty Blender is going at 30% off, so for the double pack, it would be $28 for 2 I suppose, which makes it $14 for 1,

Caring for hands

One part which women often neglect is their hands. The condition of hands can strike a first impression, when you do a hand shake, and it can tell your age.

Likewise for feet, but often, hands are more visible than feet.

I used to have really soft hands which flawless skin, but unfortunately, over time I realised faint pigments developed and due to negligence, my hands developed rashes when I moved and the new place was dusty.

My hands became rather rough. And what’s worse, I didn’t have proper handwash in my new bathroom. It was just body wash that I’ve been washing my delicate hands with. I realised the condition of my hands deteriorating.

The rashes were on and off and never really healed, until I decided to stay off seafood for a while. It’s been 2 weeks and I’m glad to say that my smooth hands have been revived! The seafood has prevented the skin from healing completely, when I had rashes due to dust mites.

How to care for hands:

1. Do not touch detergent

When doing the dishes, always wear gloves. If you wish, you can apply some hand cream for a mini hand spa while doing the dishes.

If you’re mopping the floor, do not let your feet come into contact with floor cleaner. You should have some footwear on.

2. Use proper hand wash

Do not substitute body wash for hand wash. Sure, you do wash your hands with those in the shower, but you only shower once or twice a day, while you wash your hands frequently. Hand wash should be formulated milder than body wash. Now I’m using Burt’s Bees Shea Butter hand wash and it’s quite moisturising.

3. Use hand cream

Do not use body lotion as hand cream, because hand cream is richer. When I was having the rashes, I used a hypoallergenic cream to soothe it better (Physiogel). I find that Mario Badescu’s Hand Cream is pretty good. I had it complimentary with my skincare order and I find it better then Jurlique or Burt’s Bees. I have tried Crabtree & Evelyn’s Avocado & Olive Oil hand cream in their stores and the first impression was pretty good. I might go get that next time.

4. Apply SPF lotion when outdoors

Hands will develop pigmentation as well, so be careful. A hand full of freckles will resemble an old woman’s hand. UV rays will cause photoaging to hands as well and saggy, wrinkly hands are not attractive.

5. If driving, wear driving gloves/ sleeves

The glass for the windscreen is made thinner than other glass panels in a car! So do protect well, especially in sunny countries like Singapore.

6. Use a cotton swab or spatula when applying target spot treatments on your face

I habitually use the 4th (or 3rd, if the 4th has been used) finger on my left hand to apply stuff on my face, like acne treatments, whitening spot serum, eye cream, lip balm etc. And sadly, I realised that my 4th finger has visible lines on the finger tips! This is not apparent in any other fingers. The 3rd finger has a few faint lines too, but not as obvious as my 4th finger. I conclude that those stuff which was applied with that finger could be drying in nature, and over the years, it has caused wrinkles on that finger.

7. Get a touchscreen phone

For 2 years I’ve been using Blackberry and excessive typing with the QWERTY keypad has caused hardened skin around my thumb. It is often so hard, I could just cut it off. Hopefully with my new touchscreen phone, the skin will soften over time.

How to care for nails:

1. Do not bite nails

Fortunately, this has never been a habit in my lift and I am often bewildered at how some people can be addicted to chewing their nails. To reduce such tendency, why not get a manicure and when your nails are so pretty, you may not think of biting it.

2. Use a good base coat

This will prevent yellowing of the nails, but from my experience, if you use yellow, green or orange nail varnish your nails may still turn yellow. The pigment for yellow just stains like this. I use OPI’s Base Coat.

3. If you want to have square nails, make sure your nails grow beyond your fingertips and preferably, push the cuticles to a square shape.

The reason is purely aesthetic. I can’t explain more how those square short nails are ugly. It looks like your nails are being chopped off.

4. Use Seche Vite Top Coat

This top coat dries within minutes, or even seconds. However, it is not because of the speed drying that got me sold. The finish of it is just too beautiful. It gives the surface a very smooth top, without any ridges, and the gloss is beautiful.

Hair pulled back

I’m into high ponytails nowadays. With clear skin, pulling hair back becomes an option.

My makeup routine nowadays tends to exclude foundation, which I once couldn’t live without.

After my staple sunscreen, the Naruko BB Sunscreen, I’ll put on some optional primer, depending on how my skin is looking.

Then, I would conceal my undereyes with IPSA Pure Protect concealer, or the amazing concealer in fair.

I would dust on loose powder next. I have many; Beaute De Kose, Ultimation, Lavshuca, Paul & Joe, just to name a few.

I’ll just reach out for the convenient ones, which is Ultimation lately. This is a discontinued ranged from Kose which I grabbed during the Kose Sales.

I’ll apply some blush which will be the Benefit Hervana blush, and Guerlain Meteorites as highlights.

Guerlain Meteorites are irreplaceable. Any lookalike can never match up to it! I highly recommend it. It just finishes of the makeup in a way no other can compare.

So that’s a typical routine of mine for a bare looking canvas.
